    Greening the Conference

We are committed to making sure our event is environmentally responsible and we are taking measures to "Green" our conference.

What we are asking the Holiday Inn Select Expo Center to do:

We have asked the Holiday Inn to complete a checklist that will let us know what they will do to help us Green our Conference. Click here to see what they have agreed to do!

What we are asking attendees to do:

    During Your Stay
We are encouraging all attendees to use the Green Hotel Initiative Guest Request Card when checking into and out of the Holiday Inn Select Expo Center. Developed by CERES, the card is a tool designed for use by individual travelers who request environmentally responsible hotel and lodging services. To utilize this valuable tool, simply click here to print the card, cut it in half, fill it out according to your preferences and present half of it to the hotel staff upon check-in and the other half at check-out. Your participation will not only demonstrate your personal commitment to the environment, but will also support Greening the Heartland's dedication to environmentally sound practices.

    Emission Offsets
We have contracted with Leonardo Academy's Cleaner and Greener Program to offset air pollution emissions caused by the conference travel and energy use. The program is funded by registration donations from attendees. The donations support offsetting the emissions caused by the energy use of this event. The emissions will be turned into offsets and permanently retired.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Krystal Planet Corporation for their generous donation to Cleaner and Greener. They have donated an amount equivalent to the electricity being consumed at our conference. Their donation will retire 125,000 kWh (125 MWh), a retail value of $3,750.

  • What we are asking Exhibitors to do:
We are encouraging the exhibitors to use recycled/recyclable materials in their booths, limit their handouts on-site, and donate any unused building materials to local charities. We also suggest that the exhibitors handle the majority of their pre- and post- event marketing via email.

    Additional Steps we are taking:

    Marketing Materials
Greening the Heartland has made every effort to decrease the amount of paper utilized in our marketing efforts for the conference. Complete conference information is available on our website and we have utilized the use of email to promote the conference whenever possible. Conference promotional material has still been printed and distributed, but we have carefully assessed how to minimize these mailings and we have used recycled paper and soy based inks for printing. Finally, have requested that all attendees use the website to register. A printable registration form is available on the website for those attendees wishing to register by mail or fax.
